Hi – thanks for visiting my site! My name is Emilie Blythe McDonald and I’m an actor and writer currently residing in NYC.
I have always been surrounded by incredible artists – it feels like part of the fiber of my being to be around good art. My mom (Polly Burns) was attending the Atlanta College of Art when I was born, and I spent most of my infancy in the studio with her while she painted away. My entire childhood was spent moving to different parts of North America while my Mom painted her unique vision of wherever we were (Oregon, New Mexico, Mexico, South Carolina to name a few). She was very close to my uncle (Harrison Burns), also a fine artist, and he had his own take on showing the world through art, which was just as compelling in a different way. I’ve had many other friends and family members who created art and have always had a huge appreciation for it. One of them is Ada Douglas, a fam ily friend who lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains and creates extraordinary barns through a very involved process.
In 2008 I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Miranda and having her was a big boost in following my own dreams, this site being one of them. I am beginning with three artists whose work inspires me endlessly:
Polly Burns – paintings magnifying the simple and small and showing the beautiful core within
Harrison Burns – work based on tv, film, and politics that was ahead of his time and is fully relevant now
Ada Douglas – three-dimensional barn paintings made from 17th century barn wood from the Blue Ridge Mountains
This is only the beginning – there will be more amazing art and artists to come. Feel free to drop me a line with any thoughts or questions.
Peace –
Emilie Blythe McDonald
