Polly Burns studied art at the Atlanta College of Art, earning her BFA in Painting. Keeping up her artwork throughout the years has been important to her, even as she raised three children of her own. Polly went on to study filmmaking at Regent University, receiving an MA in Communication and the Arts with an emphasis in cinematography. She has taught visual arts in a variety of settings to both children and adults, including in high schools, summer art programs for children, painting classes in a community college and in art studio programs for adults with developmental disabilities.

Polly has had showings of her artwork over the years in many places, including a show at Art Van Go in Santa Fe, NM, a show at UNM for art teachers, a 2-woman show with Tina Toomey at the Dyer Library in Saco, Maine, at the Piedmont Arts Festival in Atlanta, GA, at the show for Experiments in Art and Technology at the High Museum in Atlanta, GA, at the Saco Sidewalk Arts Festival in Saco, ME, winning an honorable mention ribbon, at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, and at the 2006 National Arts Program in Charlotte, NC, winning a first place ribbon.

Polly’s recent works have been inspired more by the materials themselves than any particular subject matter and include recycled materials along with traditional paints and collage materials. Her love of form and subtle, yet vibrant color, was a big part of her earlier work of large canvasses of sections of a plant or windowscapes, but is still evident in these recent works. She currently resides in Santa Fe, NM.
